WEEK TWO: Design, Pick Colors, AND STENCIL!
Hello peeps! Welcome to Week 2 of the One Room Challenge™! It has been a productive one considering I had to make commitments to the design, the location of the design, and choose the paint. EEEEEEK
If you missed out on the Jungle Vibe Plan revealed in Week 1, you’ll definitely want to check it out!
DESIGN DESIGN DESIGN!
I did not free hand this mural on the wall, I designed it ahead of time in illustrator. I changed my mind 1000x on different areas of the design and poked and prodded at it every night I worked on it. I mean it’s true, if you keep staring at something, you’ll keep finding things to change! So I finally got to a place I loved, then obsessed over all of the potential colors.
COLOR TIME:
I do usually lean towards more jewel-tone colors. YES, they are also the same colors in my color palette for clothes, so its not a complete shock of color choice. It did take FORRRREVER to decide though. Did I reach out to a random Sherwin-Williams customer service spot to see if they wanted to sponsor a “nobody” on Instagram for this mural?? Also, YES. I didn’t get a reply, but it never hurts to try! ha. So here we are, re-using some colors I already dig, and only getting a few new ones, so it wasn’t too costly. Mark my words Sherwin, one day we will partner up! :)
COLOR BY NUMBERS
So I stenciled my design onto the wall, which was highly tedious, as it’s hard to match up it’s a weirdly angled wall. Also, remember how my knee is hurt, and sadly, still waiting on seeing what’s going on with it? I mainly do everything while leaning most of my weight onto my right leg and John was supposed to be my “safety” guy…but as you see in this photo, he would often fall asleep. So IDK if I’d ever hire the guy in for real…but he and the dogs did their best ;)
I did make a little key with all 10 colors, so that I can number each color when I stenciled, as I was planning on having a color-by-numbers shindig, as many times as needed with anyone who’s willing and able! We did discover that my friend Isla’s strong suit isn’t painting, so she helped with preparing food instead, BUTTTT she did get her green card on this same day, which is damn exciting news all around!!!
PLOT TWIST (maybe):
I really thought at the beginning of week one, that this was going to be a guest bedroom and or a future roomie sitch, but there is a huge part of me that’s wondering if I should make this my “new” office and have the other one be a bedroom? Do I love my current office, YES! But I did it when the pandemic started and I just wonder if it’ll feel refreshing to change it up. This one is a little smaller but has higher ceilings and a WAYB bigger closet, like double the size. Which is probably what’s getting me excited because I imagine all of my crafting artsy stuff going in there very nicely along with my electronic things. Idk It might be a last-minute decision, but I did make a paper mockup of the ACTUAL size of the things that would go in this room just to see what it would be like.
I’LL BE HERE PAINTING..
We didn’t get very far with painting, so I’ll be here chilling and painting when the sun goes down and hanging out on my right leg. If you need a new hobby or think painting is therapeutic, FINE, you can help me paint. ha. See you next week!
